Description
One of the most popular Camellias of all time and probably the best of the white fall-flowering varieties, ‘Mine No Yuki’ puts on a truly spectacular show in the fall and early winter when it explodes with LOADS of slightly fragrant, large double flowers with pure white petals that surround a boss of bright yellow stamens. The flowers stand out remarkably against the background of very dark green foliage. Excellent as a specimen or natural hedge.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 6 to 8 feet tall and 6 to 8 feet wide (depending on pruning), the Mine No Yuki Camellia can be grown as a shrub or small tree. As a shrub it is ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings, or as a hedge or background plant in partially shaded landscape borders and is especially nice as a corner plant or espalier (trained to grow flat against a wall) in home foundation plantings. As the plant grows taller lower branches can be removed to form a highly attractive and colorful small evergreen tree that serves well as a focal point specimen in landscape borders and home foundation plantings. A fine addition to camellia gardens, white theme gardens, Asian gardens, cottage gardens, cut flower gardens and woodland borders. Also suitable for containers that can be brought indoors during winter above USDA Zone 7a where this variety is not reliably winter hardy. Find Your Zone
Suggested Spacing:Â 5 feet apart for solid hedge; 10 feet or more apart for space between plants
Note:Â Â For our customers who live and garden north of USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 7a, where this Camellia variety is not reliably winter hardy, you’ll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring.
Growing Preferences
Camellia adapt well to various soil types however prefer a moist but well-drained acidic soil that is rich in organic matter. Constantly soggy soil is a slow killer. In general, Camellia grows and blooms better in partial shade with some shelter from the hot afternoon sun. Morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sunlight is perfect. All-day filtered sun is fine.

Thanks Wilson Brothers for a lovely plant. It came packed very well, with multiple buds on both plants. I hope that I didn’t plant it too late! We received snow and ice in the Mid-Atlantic region only a week or so after receiving it. I’m keeping fingers crossed. I will definitely order from Wilson Bros again! ——————– WBG Reply: Hi Paris – Thanks so much for your review of the Mine No Yuki Camellia and we hope you enjoy this beauty for years to come. It’s probably not necessary, but during this first winter if temps are forecast to drop below 15F it wouldn’t be a bad idea to cover the plant with a blanket. Just make sure to remove the blanket during the day. That said, if snow is covering the ground and the plant leave it there as this insulates the plant at 32F and there’s no need for a blanket:-) Let us know if there’s ever anything else we can help you with.
