Description
The Marie’s Dwarf Hinoki Cypress wows with its delicate blue-green and white variegated super-fine, lacy foliage. When young, the plant has more of a globose shape but over time takes on a pyramidal form to 6 feet or so in height and 4 feet or so wide at the base, which makes it a perfect specimen for small spaces and containers. That said, plants can be clipped to maintain the globose form and to control height. A fine addition to conifer gardens!
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing slowly in a narrow pyramidal form to 6 feet tall and 4 feet wide at the base, Marie’s Dwarf Hinoki Cypress is ideal for use as an accent or focal point specimen in small garden spaces and pots, planters and other containers. Does very well in containers provided there is good drainage. A fine addition to Asian themed gardens, conifer gardens, white theme garden, and Xeriscape gardens (low water needs).
Growing Preferences
Marie’s Dwarf Hinoki Cypress is easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and full sun to mostly shade. Constantly soggy soil or standing water is problematic. Avoid overwatering. Provide only enough water to keep the soil damp to moist. Established plants are quite drought tolerant and will only require an occasional drink during prolonged periods of drought. Maintenance is minimal. No pruning required except to remove a stray branch that is spoiling the shape of the plant or for shaping or to control size.
