Hemstitched Tall Bearded Iris
Iris germanica ‘Hemstitched’
Note:Â Our container-grown bearded Iris can be planted in the garden year round! The Bearded Iris plants you receive from us were large #1 grade rhizomes we dug and planted last year so are now 2-year old fully rooted plants in their 1 gallon pot. The large size container-grown Irises we grow and ship are established plants that will more rapidly produce more new rhizomes during the first growing season after transplanting.

Description
A sweetly fragrant and a reblooming Tall Bearded German Iris, ‘Hemstitched’ features breathtakingly beautiful large blooms with lightly ruffled white petals “stitched’ in lilac-blue around the edges. The blooms are perched atop sturdy 32” stems above attractive, blue-green, sword like leaves. The first bloom cycle occurs in late spring followed by a second round of blooms in late summer to early fall.Â

Landscape & Garden Uses
The Hemstitched Bearded Iris is ideal for planting in garden beds and landscape borders. Plant it close to patios, decks, porches and other outdoor sitting spaces where the beautiful flowers and sweet fragrance can be enjoyed from close up. A fine addition to Iris gardens, rock gardens, fragrance gardens and cottage gardens.Â

Growing Preferences
Bearded Iris are easy to grow when planted right and in the right spot. Our container-grown iris can be planted year round! They will grow in most any average soil that is well drained and full sun to part shade. We suggest 6 or more hours of direct sunlight for best blooming. Constantly wet soil is a killer. Planting them on a slope or in raised beds helps to ensure good drainage. Mix in some composted organic matter to improve drainage in heavy clay soils.
When planting Bearded Iris, we suggest spacing plants at least 24 inches apart to allow for future spread of the plant. Dig a hole 2 to 3 times as wide as the root ball and plant so that the rhizomes (roots) are exposed slightly above ground level. Avoid planting your Bearded Iris too deep. As mentioned, planting on a slope or in raised beds will help to ensure proper soil drainage.
