Description
Our absolute favorite and one of the fastest growing of the groundcover juniper plants, the ‘Bar Harbor’ Juniper is a dense, ground hugging evergreen to about 6 inches height with a spread of 8 feet or more. The feathery dark blue-green foliage turns to an attractive silvery plum-purple color during winter. Unlike other low-growing spreading junipers Bar Harbor grows uphill as well as downhill on steep slopes.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 6 to 8 inches tall and spreading more quickly than other junipers to 6 feet or more in width, the Bar Harbor Juniper is perhaps one of the best of the best junipers for use on embankments, hillsides and slopes to control erosion. Also a nice groundcover in sunny landscape borders and larger home foundation plantings. It will cascade over walls and is a great choice to underplant small trees such as Japanese Maple and Crape Myrtle. A fine addition to conifer gardens, rock gardens and the Xeriscape (low water needs).
Suggested Spacing:Â Â 4 to 6 feet apart for mass plantings; 12 feet or more apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences
Bar Harbor Juniper is easy to grow in most any well-drained soil of average to low fertility. As with so many other ornamental plants, constantly soggy or wet soil can cause root rot and other harmful plant diseases. Best in full sun however will tolerate some light shade. We recommend at least 7 hours of direct sunlight per day.Â

Our juniper was shipped and received on time, and the plants were beautiful. We planted all 6 promptly and were happy with our purchase. However, for reasons neither Wilson Bros. nor I could determine, two of the plants died. The other four looked fine. So, my husband sent an e-mail to Wilson Bros. describing our situation. Jen, in Customer Service responded promptly. She asked for pictures of the plants and tried to determine the reason for the demise of the two plants but to no avail. So, ultimately
Wilson Bros. sent us two replacement plants along with helpful suggestions. So far, the replacements plants are doing well. It is certainly refreshing to do business with a reputable company that stands behind its product. I can’t say enough good things about Jen and the way that she responded to us. She was very professional and caring. Certainly we would not hesitate to purchase more plants from this company.—————————————————————Thanks for the great review! We are so glad you are pleased! I ended up calling back and doubling my order. The product was here in less than a week and Spencer did a fabulous job of shipping and packing. They were still moist when they arrived and were packed so well! They survived the trip from Georgia to Maine very well.—————————————–Hi Linda, Thanks so much for taking the time to provide your review of the Bar Harbor Juniper. These junipers arrived as scheduled and were beautifully packed, and when unwrapped proved to be healthy, happy plants! I let them stand out in my weather for 2 days, and then planted them as instructed. There has been a little bit of transplant shock, but not very much, because most of the plants were not root-bound. I have found this is the most important factor for long term survival of plants ordered online. I’m quite optimistic that all of these junipers will thrive here.——————————–Hi Laurel, Thanks so much for taking the time to provide your review of the Bar Harbor Juniper. Good looking healthy plants, doing well in the ground.
I bought these low growing junipers for planters on my balcony (9th Floor) with north and west exposure. They have survived the winter and are now starting to put on new growth. So far perfect for the spot!
