Description
Have you always loved the incredible show of a Wisteria vine in full bloom, but didn’t want to spend the rest of your life trying to control its growth? Introducing ‘Amethyst Falls’, a North American native Wisteria with a less aggressive habit than its Asian cousins, which can run wild! That said, don’t think this one is that mild mannered. It does grow quickly and will require some occasional pruning if you don’t provide it ample room to grow.
While the Asian types of Wisteria vines may take 10 years or more to begin flowering, Amethyst Falls Wisteria begins producing its lavender-blue flowers during its first year! Flowering occurs on new growth and is about two weeks later than that of the Asian types, so late-winter frosts seldom affect flowering. Flowers are lightly fragrant, lavender-blue, and borne in 4-inch-long racemes that hang down from the branches. What’s more, new shoots produced after the spring bloom will produce a second flush of blooms in the summer!
Deer and drought tolerance are other outstanding attributes that earned Amethyst Falls Wisteria a Gold Medal award in 2006.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing quickly 10 to 40 feet or more in height/length, Amethyst Fall’s Wisteria is ideal for use to grow up and over sturdy arbors, pergolas, and other over head structures that might benefit from the support of a flowering vine. Very nice growing along the tops of fences or rails or up tall columns or posts. Can also be trained to grow as a very attractive small, free-standing tree. As it often does in the wild, this wisteria can be grown up and throughout the branches of large trees without compromising the health of the tree.
Growing Preferences
Because Amethyst Fall’s Wisteria is a North American native it is widely adaptable to various soil types and thrives in a wide range of pH (4.5-7). We suggest a moist but well-drained soil of average fertility for fastest growth. The vine is happy in full sun or part shade however flowering will be diminished in heavy shade. If needed, prune in late winter to reduce the size. Can also be lightly pruned after the spring bloom, which often encourages a heavier second flowering cycle in mid to late summer.

This was my first purchase from Wilson Brothers. My Wisteria arrived sooner than I expected, and in excellent condition. All in all, a very good experience.———————————-We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! Thanks for the kind words and great review! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG
I received this gorgeous Amethyst Falls wisteria plant sometime last night. I woke up to find it out on my front porch, which were according to the delivery instructions that I had listed since I live in a community and my cul-d sac is very hidden and it would be safe. It arrived packaged so well and when I opened her up, I couldn’t believe it…..There were blooms all over her!!! I watered her a little and I am leaving her outside to get acclimated to the climate. I am going to put her in a 17 inch container since her root ball is about 8-8 1/2 inches and that should be ok for now. Seeing how big and gorgeous she is and the fact that there are new shoots coming up from the soil, I doubt that she will be in that size pot for long and I will have to consider planting her somewhere in my garden. I just want to thank Wilson Brothers for a beautiful plant and for taking such care to ship her so well! You have a customer for life in me. I had purchased a beautiful hydrangea about a month or so ago, and that one is looking amazing too! Thanks again, Carol———————————————-Thanks so much for the photo! I would give them four and half stars, but it didn’t seem to be an option.
They did a great job getting the plant to me alive, the box was damaged and it was a little challenging to get the plant out of the box without losing quite a bit of the leaves, but it seems to be happy in its new home.———————————————Thanks for the photo. Wisteria is very resilient, we are happy that it’s happy. We are glad you are pleased with your purchase! Thanks for the review! Beth | WBG 🙂

I am extremely happy with the condition of the plants in my order. They arrived well hydrated and were larger specimens than I expected. So far, all of the plants in my order have handled transplanting well (in spite of doing so during the hottest part of the year). There is already new growth on all of the plants and I can not wait until next season to see them continue to fill in their new homes. Thank you Wilson Bros! I am already working on my next order.——————————-We are so glad you are pleased with your purchase! Thanks for the kind words and great review! Beth | WBG 🙂
Half the trouble with online ordering is getting the plant in your hands in one piece. Often your regular plants become bare root plants, with soil dislodged on arrival. No problem here. The Wisteria was very robust and so far is doing well in a 20% shade environment where I hope it will compete on a trellis along with a just-planted honeysuckle.—————————————–We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! Three 2 gal plants arrived in perfect condition due to their clever packaging. Wilson Bros do know what they are doing. All three plants were in bloom when they arrived, all three are thriving here in Boston after 6 weeks in the ground, one is even blooming again. We really love Wisteria in the landscape and purchased a plant on Amazon advertised as a two year plant. What we got was a 4 inch tall sprout with not even 1 leaf! Should have shopped at Wilson Bros first. Our 2 gallon size plant arrived in perfect condition complete with plenty of foliage and blooms. We are looking forward to seeing it climb the tree next to where it is planted in the years to come. Wilson Bros is the real deal for quality plants. Worth every penny.—————————————We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! Thanks for the kind words and great review! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG
